Geometry Race

This term we inquired into Geometry. We swapped classes for maths and learnt about transformation, mapping/direction and shape. After learning about these aspects of geometry we were put into teams for the 'Amazing Geometry Race'. To win the race we had to work as a team to complete a four geometry activities.

DARE Fun Day

Yesterday was our DARE Fun Day. This day was a celebration of our learning during our DARE unit with Constable Greer and a really fun way to finish the term. The day started with a great demonstration from two members of the Police Dog Team. We then hopped on the bus and headed to Dunedin for an action packed day during which we went to the Action Games Indoor Centre and Lazer Force. We had an awesome day!

Room 1s Assembly

Friday 8 August was our turn to organise the school assembly. During our assembly we dramatised our version of the Saddle Hill legend and shared a poem, artwork, and our historical items. Everything ran very smoothly and we are very proud of our efforts.

Cams Big Pumpkin

On April 4 East Taieri had a pumpkin competition. My Grandad brought down the biggest pumpkin that I have ever seen. Luke, Sarah, Jordan and I judged the competition and handed all the prizes out. There were a range of different pumpkins in all shapes and sizes. My pumpkin was 142kg and we had to roll it into the library. A man from Taieri Herald came to interview me.

Emma's Visit to the Mahinerangi Windfarm

In the weekend Emma went to the Mahinerangi Wind Farm Open Day. During news toady she presented a poster about wind turbines and told us about her visit.

Here is the information she wrote on her poster:

How does a windfarm work?Wind turbines capture energy from the wind and turns it into electricity. As the wind blows and passes across the blades of a turbine, it creates lift and slowly turns the blades. The blades are connected to a main shaft, which also spins and leads into a generator. The generator converts the rotational energy from the blades to electricity. Electricity passes through a transformer and transmission t=lines to reach the main grid where it can be transported to homes, businesses and other consumers.

Facts:
* The 12 wind turbines generate enough electricty to power 13,000 Dunedin homes.
* The turbines are 132m tall.
* A turbine blade is 44m long.

Great poster thanks Emma!
