First Aid

Shoes off Please!!

Over the holidays the tradesmen were very busy in the Senior block, laying new carpet, removing benches, putting in new cupboards and shifting our bag hooks. We love our new carpet and are looking after it by taking our shoes off when we enter the room.

Motivational Speaker

Today Richard a tryathlete came to school to share his story with the Senior Syndicate. It is a very inspirational man. Ten years ago he was involved in a nasty accident in which he was knocked off his bike and went under the wheels of a semi trailer crushing his pelvis. He promised himself to get fitter when he left hospital and recovered which is why he now competes in a wide range of events. What an inspirational man!!

Bible in Schools

This term we have had the pleasure of having Mrs Karen Reid teach us 'Bible in Schools. We have learnt alot about the Christian beliefs and had alot of fun along the way. Thanks for all your hard work Mrs Reid.

Today we were learning about Christmas. Mrs Reid brought some shortbread angels and stars along for us to decorate. They were delicious!

Oceans Alive

This week we had 'Oceans Alive' at school. We learnt lots of interesting facts about our worlds oceans and the creatures that live there.

Here are a few exciting facts:
* Plankton eat each other
* Blue whale is the biggest living thing and is the length of 3 buses
* Without plankton there would be no other life
* A squids eyes are as big as soccer balls
* 3 layers of the ocean sunlight, twilight and midnight
* Angler female fish are very ugly and the males are very small and ride around on the female all the time.

Flooding at East Taieri

Last Week we experinced a week of continous downpour. Our creek was nearly touching the rim of the bridge and our Orchard had about a inch of water in the weekend. Alot of us went for a drive round to have a look at the flooding around the Taieri. It was great to look at all the flooding.

Golf

Recently Mel from Sport Otago visited us to teach us some Golf skills. We learnt how to tee off and how to chip the ball onto the green. It was cool because we learnt some awesome skills.

Our week

This week has been another busy week with lots of things on: During our reading time we have been doing research about an animal of our choice. We have to collect a range of information about our animal to display on a poster.

On Wednesday Emily brought along the biggest apple we have ever seen. It grew on her families apple tree and weighed 716 grams. It would be great for making apple crumble.

Studio 1 started this week and we had lots of interesting presenations. We are really looking forward to next weeks presentations.

On Thursday a large number of children competed in the TSSA Swimming Sports and East Taieri retained the sheild AGAIN!!

Highlanders Come to East Taieri

Yesterday the Otago Highlanders came to our school. They trained and signed autographs while the whole school watched on. Some children received 'Golden Tickets' which will enable them to get into a Highlanders game free if accompanied by an adult. It was really exciting to have the Highlanders come to our school because we got to see them up close and watch them train. They were way bigger than we thought. We were very lucky.
