C Day for Christchurch

This week we recognised the 2 year anniversary of the Christchurch Earthquake by having a 'C Day' to fundraise money for damaged schools.  We had to come dressed as something beginning with C.  There was some wonderful costumes which included Clifford, Cowboys, Cricketers, a clock and some clowns.  For lunch we had saveloys and bread.

Quick 5

When I get out of bed I slip onto my back on the shiny ice and see icicles hanging from the roof.  Then I remember the cat! I rush into the lounge and slip over again, to my cat frozen in a block of ice.  I decide to get a pick axe and do the right thing.  It took a while but the cat was still alive when I finally freed it.

Quick 5

As I looked over my shoulder, a terrifying wave shot up out of the water.  I started paddling as fast as I could.  I looked back again the wave had started to form teeth.  Was this going to be the end?
Meg

As I looked over my shoulder my nerves clammed up.  I shivered and slowly turned around as teeth reached out for me!  I snatched some rope and quickly tied myself to the mast but it was too late, the water had crashed over me.

Quick 5

We have started Quick 5 writing.  Our teacher gives us a picture and we have five minutes to write.  We are very impressed with our efforts.  Each week we will publish some examples.
My skies sliced through the snow as I lunged down the race course.  My heart was pounding and for the first time I felt scared.  Butterflies were racing about in my stomach as one of my skies slipped from underneath me.  I crashed to the ground with a thump!
Cade

Racing down the hill my skies sliced the snow out of way.  As got closer to the jump a murky figure came passed me.  "No" I yelled as he went up the jump and BAM!  He slipped over and landed face first in the snow.  I noticed a bit of ice on the jump, I turned to avoid it.

As the starter went beep, I was off.  I started to gather speed and raced through the flags.  I heard my skies slicing through the snow and I saw the finish line ahead.  Trying even harder I zoomed across the line in first place.

Lunch with the Highlanders

This year we were lucky enough to have a barbecue lunch with the Highlanders at Forsyth Barr Stadium.  Alex one of our classmates entered a competition at the Meridian and won.  The prize included lunch, heaps of tickets for the game and Highlander memorabilia.  It was an awesome day!  Thanks Alex.

Planting Day

During our topic 'Our Backyard' we planted a number of plants along our creek banks to beautify our environment.  Mrs King organised over 500 plants for the day.  Senior students along with a Junior buddy planted the plants for future generations of students to watch grow.

Healthy Homework In Term 1 we participated in the 'Healthy Homework Programme', which had us doing a range of activities. The activities were all designed to get us thinking about healthy food and make us more active. One of the tasks was growing a herb called chives. We paper mached some plastic pots and then painted them. We were pleased to see our herbs sprout.
